Do you enjoy spending time exploring our great city with others – going for coffee, walks, movies, etc.? Do you have strong communication and relationship-building skills? If you said yes to these questions, then we have the perfect opportunity for YOU! Join the Welcome Home family and be a friend to a newly housed individual! As a volunteer, you and another volunteer partner will be matched with an individual who has left homelessness and is now struggling with social isolation and loneliness in their new home. You will help them to build connection and resilience through community outings, weekly conversations, and attending fun social events. Some of the individuals in Welcome Home have experienced trauma and may struggle with mental illnesses and/or addictions. They need friends with mature, caring, and non-judgmental attitudes to help them make a fresh start in their new community. Currently, we are looking for volunteers who live or work in/near the following communities/ areas of the city: 2 male volunteers in the west end 3 female volunteers and 1 male in the north end 2 female volunteers in the south end if you don't fit these descriptions, do not worry - new participant applications are coming in all the time, so we could likely find a placement for you too! What You Can Expect To Do Develop a positive, supportive relationship with the matched participant(s) Attend mandatory Welcome Home Program training sessions Meet with match participants 2-4 times per month and connect weekly by phone for a minimum of 6 months
