Our business consists of five operating divisions: Civil Works and Clearing, Environmental Services, Pipeline and Integrity Maintenance, Matting Supply and Installation and Security Services. Role Summary As the Operations Manager, Civil& Mechanical Solutions you will oversee and manage the day-to-day operations for all civil and pipeline projects. This includes all aspects of operations including safety, quality, execution, resources, schedule, staff, client relationships, contracts, cost, estimating and working with corporate services. In this role you will report to the VP of Operations. Responsibilities Safety– Projects need to be completed safely and as per our corporate policies and procedures. We want everyone working at or with Backwoods to go home at the end of each workday without injury with a feeling that Backwoods truly cares about keeping everyone safe. Quality– Projects need to be completed to the satisfaction of our clients regarding their specifications and drawings. We want our clients to be satisfied with the“end product” after the project is completed. Execution– Projects need to be completed in the most safe and efficient manner. Project teams need to understand the execution plan from the estimate and take that forward to the project. Work needs to be planned out in advance ensuing delays are minimized/eliminated. When projects are complete, we want our clients to say the project was completed in the most efficient manner with operational excellence. Resources– People, equipment and material resources for projects need to be planned out in advance and the right resources selected for the project. Resource selection and planning needs to consider Indigenous engagement, qualifications of our people, opportunities to train employees, selecting the correct piece of equipment for the task, cost of equipment, quality and cost of material, etc. Schedule– Projects need to be completed on schedule. Schedules need to be developed based on estimate schedule and actual field conditions encountered. Schedules need to be updated considering project changes, additional scope, delays, etc. Craft/Staff– Craft employees need to be selected and hired when deemed required considering Alexis members, Indigenous people, qualifications, etc. Craft need to be carefully selected to ensure they are the right person for the job. Current staff employees need to engage in the Backwoods mission, have clear direction and roles& responsibilities, be given the opportunity to be trained and develop their careers, be held accountable to their roles& responsibilities, etc. Client relationships– Current and future client relationships need to be consistently developed and be given your time and effort to foster long standing reliability, trust and dependability. We need to ensure communication lines with clients are clear and understood by everyone involved. Clients should“want” to hire Backwoods for the next project, one reason being the positive and respectful relationship developed between Backwoods and the client. Cost– Projects need to be completed in the most cost-effective manner possible still ensuring all other aspects are completed successfully. Costs need to be understood, tracked and compared to budgets. Cost forecasting needs to be completed and communicated as required highlighting potential cost risks, overruns, underruns, etc. Estimating– All changes on projects need to be estimated and proposed as change orders to clients. These estimates need to ensure margin is maximized while demonstrating to clients the change is justified and priced fairly. Support corporate estimating as needed. Corporate Services– Projects need to be completed following all policies and procedures of corporate services. This includes safety, HR, CSR and finance; and Additional and alternative duties that may be changed from time-to-time by the Employer.
