Trinity has operated in federation with the University of Toronto since 1904; the College’s campus compromises four existing main buildings including heritage structures, along with the Lawson Centre for Sustainability, under construction and scheduled to open in 2025. The College campus grounds comprise spectacular historic buildings, situated in the central Toronto downtown core, steps from the Bloor – St. George subway station and Queen’s Park. Position Summary: A senior fundraising professional with a significant track record of success in increasingly senior advancement leadership positions in large-scale institutional settings, the Executive Director of Development and Alumni Affairs at Trinity College leads and manages advancement programming to develop and achieve ambitious fundraising goals, build and enhance alumni engagement and upholds the College’s values and mission of excellence. A member of the senior leadership team at Trinity College, the Executive Director of Development and Alumni Affairs reports to the Provost and works in close collaboration with senior leadership, faculty, staff and volunteers throughout the college. The Executive Director leads and manages a team of professionals and is responsible for goal setting and strategic planning, prospect management, as well as ensuring alignment with standards, guidelines, and procedures that protect academic integrity and promote best practice, excellence, and equity in advancement. The Executive Director is also a member of the Vice-President, Advancement’s University of Toronto-wide Senior Advancement Leadership Team, and works closely with the Vice-President, Advancement in addition to the Assistant Vice-President Division Relations and colleagues in the University of Toronto’s Division of University Advancement (DUA). The Executive Director of Development and Alumni Affairs will possess a demonstrated track record of securing significant philanthropic support; experience with recruiting, developing, and empowering a team of advancement professionals and a strong commitment establishing and supporting efforts to meaningfully engage alumni and volunteers. The incumbent will demonstrate proactive leadership and team building skills, outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, an ability to work collaboratively with other teams, and a commitment to set and achieve ambitious advancement goals and most fundamentally, an ability to connect with and engage alumni, and prospective donors in advancing the mission and vision of Trinity College. Key responsibilities: Develop, lead, and implement annual and multi-year plans and strategies to achieve transformational growth in fundraising and alumni engagement results and to advance of Trinity College’s strategic and institutional priorities. Provide exemplary leadership, direction, and mentorship to a team of advancement professionals, in order to increase the impact and effectiveness of staff in advancing Trinity College’s goals and to build capacity in major gifts, stewardship, annual leadership giving, and alumni engagement. Work closely with Trinity College’s leadership to translate institutional priorities into compelling funding and alumni engagement opportunities that engage alumni, friends, and program partners. Represent Trinity College’s mission, vision and priorities to internal and external constituents as an effective, credible institutional leader, persuasively projecting opportunities for engagement and maximizing opportunities for giving. Lead Trinity College’s fundraising performance by assuming personal responsibility for cultivating and soliciting a portfolio of major and principal gift prospects. Oversee the management of annual, major gift and gift planning programs, budgets, promotes and supports tailored cultivation and stewardship strategies that are designed to enhance prospects’ and donors’ interest and involvement, and maximize their satisfaction and giving over time. Recruit strategic volunteer leadership to support advancement activities and help broaden the base of meaningfully engaged prospects and donors. Ensure that fundraising activity is tracked through the database and that fundraising priorities, funding proposals, gift agreements, and gift announcement strategies comply with all relevant policies, protect academic integrity, and embody/exemplify best practice. Oversee the development and implementation of Trinity College’s alumni relations activities, ensuring alignment with the advancement strategic goals and objectives. Develop annual business plans and strategies that include clear, measurable goals for alumni engagement, and ensures that engagement data is recorded in University-wide systems. Contribute to alumni and donor communications including bi-annual Alumni Magazine, alumni e-newsletter, institutional channels and social platforms.
