Job Description

**It is a requirement for this role to work 12 hours shifts, both day and night, including public holidays, in accordance with a 24/7 rotating roster** The Shift Supervisor is responsible for coordinating the delivery of centre-wide services and activities for young people, implementation and monitoring of operating procedures, systems and contingency plans. Additionally, the role will manage emergency situations, monitor the effectiveness of security systems and processes, and take responsibility for operations of the centre in the absence of management. The role involves direct contact and interaction with young people accommodated in the West Moreton Youth Detention Centre. It may be required as part of the role to manage the aggressive behaviour of young people in detention and use physical restraint as a last resort. As Shift Supervisor, You Will Specifically On a shift-by-shift basis, manage and coordinate staff, facilitate the delivery of centre-wide services and activities for young people and ensure these services are integrated with accommodation, casework, programs, and education and medical services. Assist with the development, documentation, implementation and monitoring of effective, efficient, safe and secure operating policies, standards, procedures and guidelines. Input and monitor information collated and entered into information systems and quality assurance measures are implemented e.g. incident reports, suicide risk assessment, security audits. Assist with the development of emergency and contingency plans, implementation and review of these plans, and in monitoring their adequacy and appropriateness to ensure the centre's response to incidents is efficient, effective and appropriate. Manage and co-ordinate the Centre's response to emergency situations, internally and externally, to ensure appropriate and safe responses in a lawful manner. Monitor and maintain the functionality of all security processes and mechanisms within the Centre including developing and maintaining a process for conducting security system checks in accordance with centre procedures and practices. Provide on-the-job mentoring and professional feedback to Youth Workers and Section Supervisors to continuously improve quality service delivery to young people in detention. Liaise with Section Supervisors and other stakeholders to facilitate the development of effective management practices for young people and the delivery of a range of client related services. Arrange, coordinate and monitor the safe and secure movement of young people outside of the centre on escort, transfer or for other approved leave of absence. Ensure quality assurance practices are implemented to admit, release and exit young people off centre to attend court. In liaison with Unit Managers, Shift Supervisors, Program Coordinator and Curriculum Coordinator (Education Queensland) coordinate the activities of Section Supervisors, Youth Workers, other staff or Service Providers and assist in facilitating the attendance of young people at the centre in their scheduled programs and activities during the structured day. In conjunction with the Program Coordinator and the Curriculum Coordinator (Education Queensland) develop the schedule of attendance of young people to structured day activities taking into account the dynamics, individual developmental needs, young persons' single case plan, centre security and the safety of staff, young people and visitors. Prior to the commencement of the structured day, participate in a staff briefing with the Section Supervisors to ensure all information, instructions, intelligence, issues and concerns are raised and discussed regarding the Structured Day Program. Liaise with external agencies (Police, Courts, Child Safety, families and other relevant stakeholders) and community-based stakeholders to obtain and transfer information. Maintain current knowledge and understanding of all relevant public service, departmental and local policies, procedures and guidelines to ensure legislative responsibilities and lawful requirements are met. Contribute to the development and monitoring of behaviour development plans for young people. Applications to remain current for 12 months.
