Burlington Berries Pty Ltd at Cressy Tasmania 7302 requires 450 seasonal horticultural labourers for the upcoming 2023/24 berry harvest season. You must be able to commit to about 6 months minimum work, with the work expected to commence in spring (October/November) and end late autumn (May/early June). Start dates will be staggered depending on production. The work is outdoors and will be physically demanding. Work will include picking strawberries, raspberries and blackberries to the quality standards set by Burlington Berries management team. There may also be some general labourer duties including non-harvest tasks such as planting, pruning, weeding, canopy management, tunnel work/maintenance and general horticultural duties. All work will involve reaching above your head and/or bending over for long periods of time. Some heavy lifting is required. This will be a labour-intensive position and work can become repetitive. Candidates must be motivated and willing to work at a quick pace, with accuracy. Candidates must be flexible with their work hours and be able to work weekends at short notice. Successful candidates will be required to start early in the mornings on sunrise in a range of weather conditions, working an average of 30+ hours per week. The successful candidate will be offered employment on a casual basis under the Horticultural Award 2020 as a level 1 $28.26. All berry picking work will be paid under a piecerate system, NOT HOURLY. The piece rate will change daily in reflection of the job being undertaken and you will be guaranteed a daily minimum hourly rate under the piecerate system. No previous experience is necessary. Potential to upskill to other positions is available and include but not limited to the following roles; Assistant Supervisor, Supervisor and small machinery operator.
